    My absolute favourite from your list is The House of Mirth. Wharton used such masterful character development that added such depth to this book. You have so many other great choices though. Gaskell, Austen and Eliot are all favourites.

      I tried The House of Mirth maybe ten years ago and got really into it, until I put it down and then it just completely vacated my mind. Hopefully it will get chosen; so many people have told me I will love it.

      Of course, I could just *read* it without the Classics Club as well 🙂

    We will be sharing Beloved if #16 spins up.

    I read Bloody Chamber in a readalong recently & found myself a little obsessed with it by the end. It got under my skin and into my dreams!

    You’re the only other person I’ve seen with George Sand on the CC list – I’ve only read one book by her & definitely want to read more.

      I had a friend do an independent study project for George Sand way back in high school, but never read her myself.

      I actually picked up the Collected Works of Angela Carter at the library yesterday. So I’ll end up reading The Bloody Chamber (it’s in there) no matter what number is chosen 🙂
